He was a 1962 graduate of Lexington High School. A proud US Navy veteran, he served aboard the submarine, the USS Shark, as a machinist during the Vietnam War. Jug was a mechanic at Canyon Construction for many years. He also was a truck driver for several years. A self-professed “jack of all trades and master of none”, he was stubborn and determined—skills that served him well throughout his life. Jug was a gentle giant who was always willing to help others.
Jug enjoyed gardening and baking. He had amazing mechanical skills and could fix anything. He enjoyed building and repairing cars and trucks. Trips to Las Vegas were a favorite activity.
He is survived by two children, Kellee (Rodney) Hughes and Will Phillips; a granddaughter, Kelsee (Tim) Murphy; a great-granddaughter, Fynnlee; four siblings, Judi Stevens, Pam (Ray) Riddle, Tim (Pam) Stout and Janet Alverson; many nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews.
