Marilyn Mae Schwall, age 92, of Galion, passed away at her home on Friday, January 17, 2025. Born December 8, 1932, in East Canton, Ohio, she was one of nine children of the late Othur Franklin and Geneva M. (Williamson) Oberly.
Marilyn had an unwavering faith in the Lord and was a member of First Church of God (now Avenue Church) for 66 years. She participated in a multitude of church activities including Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, church nursery, J.O.Y. Women’s Group and served on many boards and committees. She was currently attending First Wesleyan Church in Ontario. She enjoyed gardening, reading, jigsaw puzzles and playing board games.
On July 2, 1954, she married John “Jack” Schwall, and they created a wonderful life. Family was of the utmost importance and Marilyn loved her big, beautiful family. Spending time with all of them—husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, and nieces and nephews—was one of her greatest joys. Marilyn was very involved in the activities of her children and grandchildren including Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and volunteering at school activities.
Left to cherish her memory are her seven children, Doug (Cathy) Schwall, Greg Schwall, Jerry (Sharon) Schwall, Jeff (Wendy) Schwall, Dave (Patty) Schwall, Patty (Greg) Karle and Mike Schwall; twelve grandchildren, Jeremy (Wendy) Caudill, Megan (Steve) Payne, Alex (Brittany) Schwall, Kirsten (Addison) Wissel, Brian Schwall, Kevin Schwall, Rebekah (Daniel) Foust, Molly (Ryan) Hofmann, Mason Schwall, Connor Schwall, Kailyn Schwall and Katie Schwall; eleven great-grandchildren, Maks and Madelyn Caudill, Olivia Payne, Riley, Natalie and David Foust, Jonathan and Emily Schwall, and Sophia, Camden and Gabe Duncan; two sisters, Bonnie Weinstock and Karen (Art) Maxwell; two brothers, Jerry Oberly and David (Elizabeth) Oberly; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, John Schwall; two brothers, Lowell and Dale Oberly; and two sisters, Frances Long and Evelyn Walker.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, January 27, 2025, at Avenue Church, 1756 Park Avenue West, Ontario, Ohio. The funeral service will be held in the church at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 28, with additional visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Diego Sandino Bustos officiating. She will be laid to rest in Crawford County Memory Gardens, Crestline, Ohio.
