He was born on December 18, 1949, in Celina, Ohio, to the late Robert and Eleanore (Harshbarger) Powell. Mark was a veteran of the US Air Force, retiring in June 1998 after 22 years of active-duty service. He rose steadily throughout his time and retired as a Master Sergeant. Mark then worked with the Defense Logistics Agency, completing a total of 38 years of faithfully serving his country.
Mark was an extremely active member of Crestline Church of Christ and directed a Christian military fellowship. His faith was ever present in his life. He was civic minded, invested with his community and made his family a top priority. Traveling with his wife and spending time outdoors were favorite ways to enjoy life.
Mark is survived by his wife of 16 ½ years, Denise Burge Powell; six children, Jason Powell, Belinda Powell, Kyle (Kelly) Schroemer, Chad Schroemer, Amanda (Bryon) Cobb and Ryan Schroemer; two grandchildren,, Avery Schroemer and Clara Cobb; four brothers, Terry, Ron, Tom (Kerri) and Jon (Diana) Powell; a sister, Kim (Mark) Wirwille; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 pm on Friday, May 1, 2026, at Wappner Funeral Directors and Crematory-Ontario, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. The funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00 pm. His brother, Tom Powell, will conduct the service. He will be laid to rest with full military honors in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville, Ohio, at a future date.
