Marvin Gregory “Marvie” “Bubby” Holbrook, a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at the age of 61. Born to Mary and Marvin Holbrook on November 28, 1963, in Mansfield, Marvie’s life was full of laughter, joy, and a deep love for the things that made him happy.
Marvie had a passion for movies, and his collection of favorites reflected his vibrant personality. Whether it was the action-packed thrill of Lethal Weapon and Above the Law, the nostalgic charm of Smokey and the Bandit, or the iconic Elvis '68 Comeback Special, he was always ready to watch and relive the classics. His all-time favorite, though, was Urban Cowboy with John Travolta—his go-to movie that captured his love for life and adventure.
A devoted Elvis fan, Marvie carried the King’s spirit with him every day. He loved to drive, especially on long trips, taking in the sights while enjoying the freedom of the open road. He went on drives daily, often ending up at Long John Silver’s for his favorite meal—fish and shrimp. Marvie also had a deep appreciation for nature and loved to fish and spend time outdoors. His spirit was always drawn to the quiet moments on the water.
Family was at the heart of everything Marvie did. He looked forward to every Thanksgiving and family dinner, always eager to share a meal, laughter, and stories with those he loved. Music was another of his great passions, with the sounds of the 70s being a constant in his life.
Marvie’s love for life extended to his favorite hobby, the lottery, where he always played with hope and excitement, often choosing his lucky number, 316.
Marvie is survived by his parents, Marvin and Mary Holbrook; sisters, Ellen (Mark) King, Mary (Don) Crose Jr., and Crystal Holbrook; nephews and nieces, Micki Porter, Scott Crose, Abby Edwards, and Chelsie King; and special friends, Dale and Lowell Spencer.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Troy and Marie Holbrook, Luther and Polly Inlow, and his grandfather, Edgar Stone.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 26, 2025, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and again on Thursday, March 27, 2025, from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at Wappner Funeral Directors-Ontario, 100 South Lexington Springmill Road, Ontario.
