

Albert M. "Soup" Campbell went to be with his Lord & Savior on February 18, 2014 at Vitas Hospice Winter Park, Florida at the age of 85. Al was born on March 15, 1928 in Lebanon, New York to Clinton Campbell and Mary Ann Reynolds Campbell. Al served 24 years in the United Sates Navy as a Lieutenant ("a true mustang") and was a bombardier-navigator in the Vietnam War. He was the recipient of many medals, awards and commendations during his years of service. One of the characters in the book "Flight of the Intruder” was loosely based on his service in Vietnam. He was a member of Naval Enlisted Bombardier Navigator Association (NEBNA), the Sanford Area Retired Naval Officers Association (SARNOA) and the Community United Methodist Church in DeBary.
He retired to Sanford, Florida in 1973 to enjoy the beautiful Florida weather and be near the beach. He loved the water and even lived on a houseboat for a time. His family was extremely important to him.
He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Carolyn Mack Campbell; 2 sisters, Hazel Rutter & Clara Harris; Linda Caudle (daughter) and son-in-law, Drew; Anne Hembree (daughter) and son in law, Mark; son, Scott Campbell and daughter in law, Megan; Jane O'Neill (daughter) and son in law, Danny and Curt Campbell (who preceded him in death in 2010) and daughter in law, Laurie Campbell. He has 8 grandchildren: Sarah Hill, Courtney Greene, Katie & Kelly Campbell, Whitley & Taylor Rupert, Will Caudle, and Alex Hembree. He also has 6 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A memorial celebration will be held Saturday, February 22nd at 11:00 am at the Community United Methodist Church in DeBary. Burial will be at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida on Friday, February 21st at 11:30 a.m. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Deltona Memorial Funeral Home. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the American Heart Association or Vitas Hospice.
