

Alma Margaret Burns, 86, of DeBary, Florida, passed peacefully from this life on June 25, 2017. Alma was born on July 8, 1930 in Newport News, Virginia to the late Charles and Alma Jorgensen. Alma spent most of her life on Long Island, New York and upon her retirement as a Church Secretary she relocated to Florida with her husband Robert Edward Burns over 30 years ago.
She was a member of many organizations but spent most of her time with the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 255 as their President, Secretary, Treasurer and Chaplain. She also belonged to the Korean War Veterans Women’s Auxiliary Chapter 153. She was also a member of the Red Hat Ladies and her church’s Women’s Auxiliary. Alma also volunteered at many local elementary schools in the Deltona area, reading to the children. Alma was very active in many needle craft groups. She donated her needle crafts to her church’s annual rummage sales and many local hospitals.
Alma was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 46 years, Robert Edward Burns, her parents Charles and Alma Jorgensen and her brother Charles J. Jorgensen.
Left to cherish her memory are her sisters; Helen Luchart and Linda Heppler (Tracey), her loving children; Robert Edward Burns (Linda), Christine Pagano and Diana M. Berthold(Jeff), her cherished grandchildren; Jeffrey, Jr., Elizabeth, Russell, Teresa, Jennifer and Rob, her beloved great-grandchildren; Tyra, Ellie, Leo, Colby and Cooper. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who were very special to her.
A service to celebrate Alma’s life is scheduled for 11:00 A.M. Wednesday June 28, 2017 at Deltona Christian Church located at 960 E. Normandy Boulevard, Deltona, Florida 32725. In lieu of flowers, Alma’s family has requested that donations be made in Alma’s memory to Deltona Christian Church, 960 E. Normandy Boulevard, Deltona, Florida 32725.
