Armand Cortes Jr., 85, passed away peaceful on Wednesday, May 20th, 2020 at Halifax Hospice in Orange City, Florida. Armand was known by his immediate family as Junior (Jr.), and he was born January 18th, 1935 to Armando Cortes and Felicita Colon in (Manhattan), New York, NY. He served in the U.S. Army as a Private.
Armand was a retired Correctional Officer for the New York City Department of Corrections. When he retired, he moved to Deltona, Florida with his wife, Aurora in 1997. Armand loved to have the family come from out of state to visit, so he can take them out to the theme parks and restaurants. He loved to be the tour guide for all the family and friends that came to visit. He loved to spend time with his family and friends at the Deltona Senior Center. Throughout his retirement, he loved taking trips with his wife Aurora to Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia, and many parts of Florida such as St. Augustine and Monticello. His love of horror movies and favorite “chiller” channel kept the family on their toes, he would always get a rise when someone was scared watching a horror film with him. He loved Elvis Presley and even was surprised with an “Elvis themed” 80th birthday party, because he was such a great fan and even had similarities and hairstyles to the King of Rock n Roll. He was a big Western movies fan too and loved movies with Clint Eastwood, Roy Rogers and John Wayne. The one thing we’ll always remember about Armand is his love for the 1997 Movie “Titanic”, he had watched that movie over 100 times and knew the movie lines and facial responses by heart, he was a softie at heart.
Armand is survived by his wife, Aurora Cortes (Garza); daughter, Lissette Cortes (Mark) Rose; son Johnnie (Laura) Cortes; daughter, Brenda Cortes (Alan) Sira, grandchildren, Emmanuel, Brandon, Alanis, and Aliah; grandchildren Valerie (Raymond) Lopez, great granddaughter Arianna and great grandson Aden; sisters, Catherine Cortes-Irizarry, Enid Cortes-Shipman; Mary Jane (Gilbert) Acevedo; and numerous nieces and nephews. Armand was preceded in death by his parents and son, Armand Cortes, III.
