Bernice was a beloved daughter of Louise and Lloyd Clausen and was reunited in peace with her parents, her dear sisters Ardene Wolff, Kate Wagner/Baer, Annie Wolff, and Dorothy Batenhorst, her husband Keith W. Seward, and other cherished family members who predeceased her, Dina Carlson(Granddaughter), Mark Hauser(Son in Law) and Matthew Newstrom(Grandson).
Bernice also has a brother Jim Clausen, youngest of the Clausen siblings who resides in West Point, NE with his wife Doris.
Bernice was a beacon of love and strength, married to her dearest Keith for 61 wonderful years, a union that began on May 22, 1947, in their hometown of West Point, NE. Together, they embarked on an adventurous life, raising their family, and sharing incredible memories in places that spanned from Fremont, NE to Cass Lake, MN, where they owned the Sah Kah Tay Resort, and later in International Falls, MN, where they managed The Belle Haven Resort.
A graduate of West Point High School, Bernice was a devoted homemaker whose nurturing spirit extended beyond her family to her role as a Sears Catalog Manager in International Falls, MN. Her life was enriched by her active participation in the Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Deltona, FL, where she was a dedicated member of the CCW and a 4th Degree member.
Bernice’s warmth and vitality were evident in her love for gardening, tending to her beautiful flowers, and her delight in playing cards, dancing, reading and sharing lunches with friends. Her greatest joy was her family, particularly her daughters Kathy (Richard Newstrom), De Ann (David Carlson), and Scotti (Mark Hauser) who carry forward her legacy of love. Her spirit will live on in her 6 grandchildren, Derek Carlson (Vikki), Nathaniel Bankston (Christina), Nicholas Bankston (Sarajane), and Neely Bankston (James), and her 7 great-grandchildren, Kelsey and Connor Carlson, and Owen McGuire, Ava, Hudson, and Emmy Rose Bankston, and Lily Bankston as well as her great-great-grandson, Kai Carlson.
Bernice’s life will be celebrated on November 11, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Dignity Memorial, located at 1295 Saxon Blvd, Orange City, FL 32763. Her family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Majestic Oaks in John Knox Village and the Halifax Hospice Caregivers who ensured Bernice’s comfort and dignity in her final days.
As we remember Bernice, let us hold dear her words, “Let the Beauty of each day nourish your soul and bring you peace.”
