Bessie Elizabeth Jones

Bessie Elizabeth Johnson Jones passed away Saturday, January 26, 2019, at Center For Health Care of The Alliance Community in Deland, Florida. Bessie was born on January 24, 1924 in Lincolnton, North Carolina, a daughter of the late Burgess O. and Eva Nichols Johnson. She finished School in 1940. She worked at a neighborhood drug store in Charlotte, NC and retired from Albertson’s pharmacy. She also worked at NASA in the “white room” during the Apollo Mission. She married the late Robert O. Jones in December 1973.

She loved her church, Garr Auditorium, in North Carolina, but when she moved to Florida, she became an active member of 1st Baptist Church of Orlando, and later moved to Osteen Baptist Church in Deland, Florida. Bessie was active in the church choir and sang solos many times during worship. She enjoyed sewing and making chicken scratch quilts.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 32 years, Robert O. Jones in 2005 and her son, William Ritter in 2007.

She leaves her memories to be cherished by her loving daughters, Deanna Clotfelter of Ocala, Florida, and Nancy Bunnicelli Hunter of Little River, South Carolina; Grandchildren – Suzette Weddington, Lynette Rodrigue, Rusty Ritter, Dawn Gillis and John Bunnicelli, all Florida residents; and Billy Jean of North Carolina. Great Grandchildren – DJ, Michael, Rebekah, Katia, Sasha, Joseph, Anthony, Leah, Justen, Chase, Aaron, Stephanie; Great Great Grandchildren - Ethan and Jaxon

Viewing will be at 12:00 on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at the Deltona Memorial Funeral Home, 1295 Saxon Blvd, Orange City, Florida 32763. The service will be at 1:30 pm and Graveside service will follow at the Deltona Cemetery.
