Calvin Jackson "Jack" Rodgers, age 81, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2026, surrounded by his loving children. A proud veteran, devoted provider, and a gentle soul, Jack lived a life marked by quiet strength, faithful service, and deep love for his family.
Jack was born on June 3, 1945, in Troy, Alabama, to the late Frankie Lee Rodgers and Mary Clyde (Bundrick) Rodgers. He grew up in Phenix City, Alabama, where he graduated from high school before answering the call to serve his country. In 1965, Jack joined the United States Air Force, serving a tour in Vietnam as a skilled radio technician. Over his distinguished 20-year career, he shared his expertise as an instructor before retiring in 1985. Throughout his life, Jack maintained a lifelong passion for aviation, always keeping up with Air Force aircraft and fondly—and sometimes sorrowfully—tracking the retirement of legendary planes.
Following his military retirement in Colorado, Jack relocated to Florida, where he embarked on a second 20-year career as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service. He took immense pride in his work, bringing the same dedication and hard work to his route that he showed in every aspect of his life.
A humble and simple man, Jack was an introvert who enjoyed time alone and never felt the need to showboat. Yet to those who knew him, he was a friend for life. He held onto memories with great affection, often speaking warmly of friends from his past who remained forever in his heart. Jack found quiet joy in the simple pleasures: reading books—especially Westerns—exploring cooking recipes, using computers, and watching wildlife, with a special fondness for feeding the birds. He had a deep appreciation for good comfort food, especially a good sandwich, cornbread and beans, fresh watermelon, homemade vanilla ice cream, and apple turnovers.
Above all, Jack was a devoted family man. Though a hard worker who labored long hours to provide, he possessed an exceptionally tender heart—always serving as the sweetest, most comforting soul whenever his children were sick or hurting. In his later years, his greatest joy was found in his role as a great-grandfather, lighting up in the presence of his great-grandchildren.
Jack was a believer in Jesus Christ, and his family takes comfort in knowing he is at peace and resting in eternal life in Heaven.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Frankie Lee Rodgers and Mary Clyde Rodgers, and his brother, Dan Rodgers.
He is survived by his children: his daughter, Hope Jones, and her husband David; his son, Greg Rodgers, and his wife Beth; and B.J. Pearson, who was like a son to Jack through his deep, lifelong friendship with Greg. He is also remembered by Cupid Lockwood (born Parrish), the mother of his children.
He leaves behind a legacy through his sister, Annell Hatcher, and her husband Earl; his cherished grandchildren: Alex Jones, Daniel Jones and his wife Bethany, Simon Jones and his wife Sarahgrace, Tyler Rodgers, and Chase Rodgers and his wife Alyssa; and his precious great-grandchildren: Skylar Rodgers and Salem Rodgers.
