Catherine Cortes-Irizarry (Cathy) 90, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 1st, 2026 at Halifax Hospice in Orange City, Florida. She was born December 15th, 1935 to Armando Cortes and Felicita Colon in (Manhattan), New York, NY.
Cathy is a retired Associate Director for Lincoln Medical Center (The New York City Health & Hospital Corporation). When she retired, she moved to Deltona Florida.
Cathy loved CHOCOLATE, eating out (who can forget OLIVE GARDEN and her other favorite…..PIZZA), movies (horror), shopping (especially MACY’S), Domino’s, Bingo and Pokeno, dancing and dressing up for any occasion.
Throughout her retirement she enjoyed traveling which included Israel (Jerusalem), Greece, Egypt, Spain (Barcelona), France, her beloved Puerto Rico (Uncle Benny, Cousin Carmen and many others), and a cruise to Cuba that she was so excited about and planned out so well to make sure her son Ricky (Richard Cabo) could explore his Cuban heritage from his father Rolly (Rolando Cabo).
She loved Frank Sinatra and his music so much that she even convinced Lissette, her niece, to help her create the most wonderful “Frank Sinatra, Rat Pack themed 80th Birthday Celebration that included an appearance by “Frank Sinatra”, “Sammy Davis Jr.” and “Dean Martin” and Cathy arriving in her own limousine as an “Iconic Styled” Marilyn Monroe wearing a red gown with jewels and white fur stole looking GLAMOROUS as ever as she said, “I did it my way!
Cathy is survived by her son, Richard Cabo (Dassi Rosenkrantz) and grandchildren Noga Cabo, Adam Cabo, Zohar Cabo; grandchild, Natasha (Jesse) Monaco and great-grandchildren Devin Colfax and Giules Monaco; grandchild Nina Irizarry; grandchild Angelica (Kyle) Sudhoff and great-grandchild Kyle Sudhoff, Jr.; sister Enid Cortes-Shipman; nephew Eric A. (Celia) Wood and great-nephew and great-nieces Eliana, Nia, Alyssa, and Elijah; Sister Mary Jane (Gilbert) Acevedo; niece Melissa Acevedo and great-niece Kaitlyn Acevedo; sister-in law Aurora Cortes; nephew Johnnie (Laura) Cortes; niece Lissette (Mark) Rose; niece Brenda Cortes (Alan) Sira; grand-nephews and grand-nieces, Emmanuel, Brandon, Alanis, and Aliah; great-niece Valerie (Raymond) Lopez, great-grandnephew Aden and great-grand niece Arianna;
Cathy was preceded in death by her parents named above; her son Charles Irizarry; Loida Cortes; her brother Armand Cortes Jr., and her nephew Armand Cortes, III.
On Friday September 4th, 2026 at (Dignity) Deltona Memorial Funeral Home, Orange City Florida
Visitation and viewing from 10:00 am - 1:00PM, Eulogy and service by the catholic priest from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm. Interment and Burial (Committal Service) will follow at the same property location at Deltona Memorial Gardens in the rear of the property at 2:00 pm.
