

Edwood Philip Scholz, 80 of DeBary, Florida left this earth after a long struggle with Dementia, Alzheimer’s disease on Monday, April 6, 2020 at the Oak Village Assisted Living Facility under the compassionate care of Halifax Hospice.
He was born on May 22, 1939 in Brooklyn, N.Y., the only son to the late George and Hermine Firsching Scholz. Edwood served in the United States Army in the Military Police. He was a carpenter and Police Officer with the New York City Police Department and Suffolk County Police Department, when he retired. Edwood was a longtime parishioner of Saint Ann’s Catholic Church in DeBary, Florida. He served as Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, Minister to the Sick, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree for many years.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, Opa, and friend. Ed or Eddie had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed having fun with family and friends. He also worked at H& R Block during the tax season for 13 years. Ed played golf at Glen Abbey Golf course where he served as treasure for many years in their men’s association. He collected golf balls from different clubs he played, stamps, and Hess trucks. He and is his wife Mary, made many trips to Germany and Austria to visit his relatives. They also went on many river cruises with Grand Circle Travel often accompanied by Jean Ann and John. In addition they traveled to Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Holland, Belgium, France, Switzerland, Hungary, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, Black Sea, China, Australia, New Zealand, Figi, Russia, Egypt, Israel and the Holy Land.
Edwood leaves behind his beloved wife of 54 years, Mary Phillips Scholz; two special daughters, Christine Ledger and husband, David, Noelle Erfourth and Husband Derek; seven grandchildren James, Sierra, Hope, Heidi, Regan, Emma, and Giovanni, and one great grandchild Jackson.
In addition to his parents, Edwood was preceded in death by his sister, Theresa Machlan who left behind her 3 children, George, Rosemarie, and Michael plus one granddaughter Andrea.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10a.m. Saturday, August 22, 2020 at St Ann’s Catholic Church, 26 Dogwood Trail, DeBary, Florida, and Officiated by Father Andrzej Jurkiewicz.
