Born on December 21, 1946, in New London, Connecticut, Eli was the son of Burton Schaperow and Sarah Krugman Schaperow. He was a retired chemist, but for the majority of his life, he had a successful career as a licensed real estate broker in Volusia County.
Eli brought warmth, passion, and spirit into every room he entered. Whether sharing his love for nature and birds, serving his community, or simply offering a welcoming smile and a heartfelt hug, he touched the lives of countless people. He was deeply proud of his Jewish heritage. A generous and loving man, he lived his Jewish values every day through acts of kindness, compassion, and service to others.
For many years, Eli was an active member of the DeBary-Deltona-Orange City Rotary Club, where he was a source of inspiration and friendship. He was also a proud member of the West Volusia Audubon Society, leading bird walks, participating in bird counts, and supporting conservation efforts that reflected his deep appreciation for the natural world. And, he was a proud Mason and member of Landmark Lodge in Deltona.
An adventurer and an explorer at heart, when he was a teenager, his best friend Barry took him on a trip that opened his eyes to the joys of discovering new places and experiencing the world beyond the familiar. From that moment on, something awakened in Eli: a love of adventure, travel, and a deep curiosity about the world that would become a defining part of his life.
Eli is survived by his wife, Mary; his children, Jennifer, Lee, Michael, Mark; his grandchildren, Tiffany, Toni, Arielle, Jared, Andrew, and his great grandchildren Jamal, Ari, Shianne, Caleb, Ethan, Gabriel, Ivy, Jesse, Mia, James, and Sevyn. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Andrea.
The most important thing to Eli was his family. He was extremely proud of each child, grandchild and great grandchild. They were loved unconditionally.
His legacy of kindness, generosity, and dedication to others will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. We will find him in the wild places, hear him in the songbirds and see him soaring with the eagles. He will be missed and never forgotten.
