Ernest “Ernie” Joseph Tegge III, 68, of Deltona, FL, passed away on February 6, 2025, after a courageous battle with kidney disease. A devoted husband, father, craftsman, and community leader, Ernie lived a life full of hard work, service, and love.
Born on August 14, 1956, in Pittsburgh, PA, Ernie graduated from Deer Lakes High School, where he found a passion for woodworking and theater production. His skill and creativity led him to build countless cherished pieces, including the family’s dining room table, china cabinet, and many other treasured household items.
After high school, Ernie worked as an ambulance driver before founding his own business, Ernie’s Electric, where he spent many years as an electrician. Over his lifetime, he took on many roles, including baker, handyman, tractor salesman, and caterer—each career reflecting his dedication to craftsmanship and service.
Ernie was deeply committed to the Boy Scouts of America, serving in numerous leadership positions, including Den Leader, Cub Master, Troop Leader, Scout Master, and Powder Horn Quartermaster. His mentorship and passion for scouting left a lasting impact on countless young lives.
His faith was also central to his life. A devoted member of his church, Ernie sang in the choir, served as an Elder, served in the food pantry, and contributed his skills to the Building and Grounds and Security Committees.
Beyond his work and service, Ernie found joy in cooking and baking for others. He was known for his famous apple cinnamon cake, ribs, and beer can chicken—dishes that brought family and friends together around the table.
Ernie is survived by his loving wife, Karen Tegge (Miller); his children, Benjamin Tegge and Megan Tegge (Sarnac); and a community of friends and family who were blessed to know him.
A memorial service will be held in honor of Ernest’s life and legacy. Details will be shared at a later time. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Boy Scouts of America, Deltona Presbyterian Church, or American Kidney Fund in his memory.
Ernie’s legacy of craftsmanship, kindness, and service will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
