Eulitt Mary Tummings was born April 25, 1932 in Clarendon, Jamaica, West Indies. She attended school in Chapleton and for many years helped her mother take care of her father, Benjamin Batchelor, who had had a stroke. With brothers and sisters in America, her mother, Sarah Batchelor, wanted her to join her sisters and brothers in America for a better life. She migrated to America and lived in Connecticut with her brother, Clive Batchelor, and sister-in-law, Carmen Batchelor. She lived there for several years before moving to New York City. There she met a handsome man, Grandville Tummings, who she later married.
She was determined to be a nurse after seeing how her father suffered due to a stroke. She went back to school at Rockland Community College, where she received her degree in nursing. She worked for many years at Albert Einstein Hospital in the operating room, then at Westchester Square Medical Center, where the staff and patients loved her for the loving medical care she gave them. Whatever job she did, she did it with diligence and sacrifice. She truly was the best mother there was. She will be greatly missed.
Eulitt “Mary” was predeceased by three brothers, Clive, Kenricks, and Digby Batchelor; a sister, Jefferson Louise Batchelor; two daughters, Jean Schreck and Beverly Ballantine.
Remaining to cherish her memories are her beloved husband, Grandville Tummings; sister, Annis Dalley; brothers, George Batchelor and Nickolus Batchelor; daughters, Phyllis Ballantine and Elaine Brennan; son-in-laws, Michael Schreck and Manuel Brignoni; grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Mark, and Elizabeth Schreck; and Dana Ballantine Brignoni; great-grandchildren, Victoria Brignoni, Manuel Brignoni Jr., Joseph Brignoni, Gabriel Schreck, and Ethan Schreck; her many nieces and nephews; and many close and endearing friends.
