Gary Lee Thompson, 82, of Deltona, Florida, passed away April 1, 2026. He was born in Pekin, Illinois on July 26, 1943, a son of the late Virgil and Amelia Thompson. He served his country in the United States Navy as a small arms instructor from 1961-1966.
Gary was married to Elaine Friedman on April 22, 1972, and they were married for 32 years before she preceded him in death in 2004. In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Ralph and Alan, and his sister Yvonne.
Gary worked primarily in auto sales and finance. He had a passion for fishing and interests in reptiles, NASCAR and planes. He was an active member of the West Volusia Bass Anglers and fished as many tournaments as possible.
Gary had a deep love for his family and was survived by his children Mark Thompson, Karen Hugo, Scott Thompson and Cheryl Blanc; grandchildren Jacob Costello, Morgan Piela, Madison Piela, Evan Hugo, Stella Thompson, Ben Thompson, Ellie Thompson, and Nathan Blanc.
Funeral arrangements will be held May 17 at Deltona Memorial Funeral Home. Reception details to follow.
