Still missing George as I'm sure you are he was a great neighbor who always had a ready smile

Uncle George, anyone who has ever spent time in SOP knows it’s an end of an era. 

He was the mayor of 125th st if not all SOP. 
He was the first person to come introduce themselves as new neighbors moved in (also told us if we should like them. )

Anyone who owned a car before 1990 knows we spent the weekends in the driveway, just trying to make it get through the next week. Uncle George was the first to tell you what to fix (and probably would help)

George and I are upstanding adults, but not so much as kids.  All I need to say is: “Why is there a 6ft deep ditch in the lot?”

And no, we didn’t spill the tar, just to see grandpa’s “pics” on the garage wall. 

And could never forget Aunt Tut, only parent that would make the kids stop playing so we “she” can go in the pool. 

As I said end of an era…. 

But will always live in our hearts. 

All these pictures and videos show how loved Georgie was and what a  wonderful fun life he shared with his family and friends! I’m sure Toot and crew met him at the gates of heaven! May you all keep him with you in your hearts through these memories as others who knew him will do. Many great times meeting at Gert & Toms over the years. Praying for you all! George and Toot treated me like a member of the family from the first day I met them. I'll never forget their kindness and generosity. George was a hard worker and he really loved his family. He will be sorely missed. My deepest condolences to his family and friends.

So we would always be in and out of the Barnes household hi and goodbye  probrably at weird times of the early morning … then I go to work at Alitalia on the dock ,  prob still drunk , driving a forklift and I see this guy with a BIG smile 😃 
.  I said to myself this guy looks familiar and realize it’s Mr. Barnes.   I said hey Mr. Barnes - I could not believe he recognized me I was so happy .   But I realized he didn’t recognize me ,,, he was just happy I was going to offload his truck ….. :(.   😂  

May God Bless him and continue to look over all the ones he loved.

Words cannot express how sorry I am for the loss of such a beautiful man! I met pops many years ago, at a time when  I was young and impressionable. I don’t know if he realized the immense impact he had on my life, when I most needed it! But here is what I saw in pops- A hardworking man who was completely dedicated to his family. A great husband and father. A man full of integrity. I met him at a time when I felt lost, and he made me feel at home. I will forever be grateful for that! Pops was a great man. May he rest in peace. 

We will always miss that giant smile and and sense of humor.  We are all so sorry for your loss.  Heaven has a new angel, and a blessed reunion as well.  ❤️

Mr. Barnes was the one of the BEST.  When my husband and I bought our first home, Mr. Barnes came to the house with a broom, so that our home would always be clean, a loaf of bread, so that we would never go hungry and a quarter so that we would never be poor.   That was over 20 years ago and that is a story that we always tell. One of the most thoughtful gifts from one of the greatest souls.  You will be missed Mr. Barnes!! Although it's been a bunch of years since Big George had moved down to Florida I will definitely miss the times we shared in South Ozone Park. Without fail anytime I visited whether it was a quick pass through or for an occasion Mr. Barnes and I would get lost in conversation. The topic or the time we spent chatting never mattered, it was always engaging, pleasant and we usually had a good laugh.... or two! 
There were definitely times when I should've been assisting young George for that was the reason we were there but I'd be lost somewhere in the house taking to Mr. Barnes. Then I'd probably get yelled at by George but it was always worth it! Lol 
He was a kind, caring man whom I respected greatly and he will be missed. Sleep In Peace Mr. BARNES.

My memory of my dear friend, George Barnes III.  George was a quiet man, soft spoken, never saw him get upset or angry.  He always had a 
smile, a little chuckle  and his eyes shined. We had a group the Fab Four.  Doris Pierce was amazing women in her 90's, Dave West , George, and myself.  Everyday at 4a.m. we would walk the whole park including weekends.  I no longer live in the Villa's but I still have friends there and visit them.

God Bless you George you are one of a kind.

I never had the pleasure of meeting you in person Mr. Barnes. However, I did meet your son George IV about 6 years ago on a Good Friday this very same week of Easter. He has been a good friend ever since we met and some of my happiest times were spent laughing with him while in NYC.  We all want to make a positive impact on this world and leave a good legacy.  I can promise you that you and your wife “Toot” did an amazing job of raising your children and George is a beautiful reflection of love, joy and kindness. Well done, Mom and Dad. 
Many people are blessed because of the legacy you have passed on thru your children.

       Our times together were so very special to me-you are not only pop to me you are my dad.We had our good talks,lots of laughs through the years. When we took our car rides to doctors, house hunting or even the dollar store we always made the best of it...we ( well me ) making fun of people as they passed us always put a smile on your face. We can't forget our couple of lunches we got to have together we always had extra dessert ( our secret)..
But the one thing I will always cherish is you never judged me and always considered me as your favorite daughter-in-law (haha).

I will always cherish how Uncle Georgie came to visit us on Long Island one Saturday and we shared a lifetime experience.  I had just gotten my first car, 1968 Rambler station wagon with the stick shift on the Column. My dad got it for me as a surprise and hadn’t had time to teach me to drive it yet. Uncle George was so happy for me when he saw it and said “Come on “I”, I’ll teach you! “ we spent that afternoon driving around laughing while I was learning with such a sweet and gentle man! It only took that one day with him and I was successfully driving my new car. I will forever cherish this memory of our special day together! He was always such a gentle,  kind and loving uncle! We were blessed to have him and he will be greatly missed. He loved all of his family well! May our Lord Jesus give peace and comfort to you all in this difficult time of grief. 

Cousin George, I can remember growing up like it was yesterday. We lived about a block something away from each other, and your brother’s Phil and Donnie and you were my besties cousin’s growing up.  This is difficult for me to write as we always were best of friends, cousins, and inseparable family.  I can still hear your one of a kind laughter, as weekend after weekend, we used to get together and just share great times together. You were and always will be the best cousin I could have ever asked for. Love You Cousin George - Miss You - Until we meet again - Cousin Walter 🙏🙏🙏

Uncle George you will be missed. I remember many great parties at your house over the years. One year you invited us over for Thanksgiving it was a great time. A memory I have never forgotten and will always cherish.

I was very sorry to learn of George's passing.   He was truly a "Nice" man and a good friend.  My thoughts and prayers are with his daughter Stacy, and granddaughter Gabby, both of whom I know brought great joy to his life.   God's blessings on you all.
