

Harry Malavé, 81, passed away surrounded by his wife, all his children and loved ones on the 14th of April, 2022 at AdventHealth Memorial in Orange City, Florida. Harry was born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, May 7, 1940. The family relocated to New York City when he was ten years old. After graduating from Alexander Hamilton Vocational High School, he served in the Marines where he was stationed in French Morocco and traveled throughout Europe. He was proud to serve in the armed forces.
He attended NYC Community College and Brooklyn College. He earned two Master’s Degrees from the University of Tucson and NYU. He was the first of his family to attend college and was an educator for 37 years. He made Central Florida his home since 1987.
He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He loved the Lord, attended church faithfully, served in the temple and had many callings. He also donated his time to the Boy Scouts of America as a scout master.
Harry fiercely loved his family and cared for them deeply. He cherished his wife and three daughters. He was the kind of person that knew everyone in the neighborhood and assisted when he knew there was a need. Friendly and extroverted he easily made conversation.
Harry was also an athlete. At Brooklyn College he was part of the fencing team. He ran over 15 marathons, many triathlons, and played tennis for over 50 years. He picked up the game of softball after retirement.
Singing was his true passion. He shared his talent at church and on the stage. He often serenated his family during holidays and Christmas. He loved to sing Johnny Mathis, Nat King Cole, and Spanish trios.
Harry Malavé was preceded in death by his parents Higinio Malavé & Inéz Cruz, his brother Luis Alemañi, and sister Irma Iris. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Zaida; his brother Melvin (Carmen), his three daughters, Nancy, Jessica and Iris, and eight grandchildren (Antonio, Geovani, Alexandra, Gabriel, Garrett, Eva, Truman, Monroe) and one great grandchild (on the way).
Visitation with family and viewing will be a from 6 – 7 pm on the18th of April at Deltona Memorial Funeral Home & Gardens, 1295 Saxon Blvd, Orange City, FL 32768. Funeral Services will follow at 7 pm. All are welcomed.
