

Helen was born June 26, 1927 in Walbridge, Ohio, daughter of the late Cyril O’Kenka and Mary Loprice.
She was a graduate of Lake Township High School in Millburg, Oh. Helen retired from the Department of Army for the Civil Service where she received the Presidential Management Improvement Award. The winners were announced by the White House and selected from 2900 candidates Government-wide. President Carter made the announcement and said that the award winner’s achievements have contributed significantly to providing better services to the public. Helen also received many other awards for her excellent service.
Helen met the love of her life, Richard Lewis, and was married Jan 25, 1947. They lived in Ohio and Michigan until retirement and then moved to Deltona, Florida in 1984. For the last year she had been living at Woodland Towers at Deland, FL. In 1996 after 49 years of marriage her beloved husband Richard passed away.
Helen leaves behind her brother-in-law Dutch (Edel) Lewis, nephew Jerry (Jeri) O’Kenka and dear friends Betty LaCouture and Dorothy Walizer. Helen is preceded in death by her parents Cyril and Mary, her brother Joe O’Kenka and sister Mary, and several nieces and nephews.
Helen and her husband Richard were active Square Dance partners and loved traveling with their Carriage Club. Helen also spent her time playing cards, traveling and enjoyed woodworking. Helen was a very loyal and honest friend to all and will be greatly missed.
A visitation will be held on Friday, October 30, from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Deltona Memorial Funeral Home. A funeral service will take place at 11:00 AM following the visitation.
