Hugh Samuel Jones

Hugh Samuel Jones was born on July 12, 1936 in Clarksburg, West Virginia, the son of Macil Mae Shaver and Owen Edward Jones. Hugh had an older sister, Maloa. The family moved to Bridgeport, West Virginia where Hugh attended school. He graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1956 and attended Potomac State College of West Virginia University, in Keyser, for two years. Hugh joined the Army reserves for six years. He was on active duty during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Hugh played basketball in high school, tennis in college and loved to both roller skate and ice skate. His parents built a home on Maple Lake and he was a life guard there in the summers.

Hugh helped his Dad build their homes and designed and built three homes of his own. He was a talented self taught “Mr. Fix It”. Give him some duct tape and he could fix anything!

Hugh was the youngest Shiner to complete his Masonic degrees in the sixties.

Hugh moved to Florida in 1975 marrying Judy and settling in Sanford, Florida on Lake Sylvan. They have one son, Chadrick Owen Jones, which he felt was his greatest accomplishment.

Hugh retired from Airfold Textron as a millwright.

Hugh loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He won several trophies in archery. Judy and Hugh had a motor home and loved to camp with camping club friends. Hugh leaves a large family of sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces and wonderful friends.

A memorial service will be held Saturday April 7th 2 PM at Deltona Memorial Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in his memory to the American Diabetes Association, www.diabetes.org
