Hugh Wellington Joseph (also known as “Trevor”) was born on the beautiful twin island Republic of Trinidad and Tobago to Ellis Joseph and Pearly Joseph on the 1st day of April 1957. Hugh attended the Tunapuna Anglican Primary School and was confirmed at the Good Shepherd Anglican Church, both in Trinidad.
He later migrated to the United States where he graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Brooklyn, NY in 1975. He was a member of the track and field team and ran middle distances. He later attended Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Florida and Andrews University Flight School in Michigan, where learning to fly was his passion.
Hugh's other interests were evident throughout his pursuits and the people with whom he came in contact. For instance, earlier in life, Hugh was a devoted music lover, DJ, and party promoter. He was also an artist who created paintings in oil and acrylic and a sculptor of wooden friezes.
His professional interests were also wide and varied. He was a baker and chef who owned and operated Hugh’s Continental Bakery in the Pitkin Area of Brooklyn, NY. He also owned a catering business in Florida and was skilled in designing and creating wedding cakes and gourmet cuisine.
These creative endeavors fed his spirit in service of others and were all part of his soul’s greater mission here on Earth. Hugh’s connection to a higher power was further nurtured when he became a member of the Mt. Bethel Spiritual Baptist Church in Brooklyn, NY, remaining a faithful Baptist throughout the rest of his life.
Though he never married or fathered any children, he was devoted to his friends and relatives who will surely miss his charm, generosity, willingness to help, and the upbeat spirit he exhibited throughout life.
Hugh is survived by his Mother, Pearly Joseph, sisters Claudine and Heather and brother Lester, all of Florida. He leaves behind nephews Fred, Anthony and Keith, niece Tasha and her son, Emmanuel. Aunts left behind include Ruby, Elton, Marjorie and Joyce, as well as Uncle Claude and Conrad. He also leaves behind many close cousins, both in Trinidad and Tobago and the United States. Cousins include Kelvin, Joy, Dawn, Herman, Joanne, Sharon, Michael, Hayden, Glenda, Lystra, AnnMarie, Ingrid, Sean, Tricia, Jason, Carol, June, Carla, Margaret, Cheryl, Ingrid, Brian, Jennifer, Ronald, Roland and a host of family and friends too numerous to mention.
Hugh is preceded in death by his father, Ellis Joseph, Great-Aunt Millicent Phillips, and Uncle Lloyd Ifill.
Goodbye Hugh, until we meet again!! We love you and will miss you, but we know that you are resting comfortably with the Almighty Creator.
