Jo-Ann Grasso, age 76, passed away peacefully to the sound of Elvis singing "I did it my way" with her daughter by her side on Friday November 1st, 2019 at 10:24 a.m. She was born on July 26th 1943 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to John and Antionette Scoppetta.
Jo-Ann was an outgoing, hardworking, loving wife and mother. She married Mario, her husband of 57 years, on June 1st 1962. Jo-Ann and her husband moved to Deltona, Florida in 1972. She was very civically active in the pre-incorporated years of Deltona. Jo-Ann helped the younger population become assimilated within what began as a retirement community. She was a co-founder of the Deltona Jr. Woman's club and the corresponding secretary that helped make Deltona a part of the American Revolution Bicentennial in 1976. Jo-Ann also consulted with The Mackle Brothers to help establish playgrounds for children and aided a former Mayor in selecting locations for new schools in the community.
She often spoke of the love for her 30 year career as a nursing home administrator. She was a strong advocate for her patients and thought of fondly by her staff. She never stopped sharing stories of her nursing home adventures even when the Alzheimer's riddled her mind. She was proud of her profession and the accolades that accompanied.
Jo-Ann is survived by her husband Mario; son, David Grasso; daughter, Jennifer Grasso; grandchildren, Peyton Grasso and Britney Zegarra; great-grandchildren; Katalina and Maximo Zegarra; and brother, John Scoppetta
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Cheryl in 2010 and granddaughter, Paige in 2018.
A memorial service will be held at 12pm, Saturday, December 7th at Deltona Memorial Funeral Home. Inurnment will follow at Deltona Memorial Park. Arrangements entrusted to Deltona Memorial Funeral Home, 1295 Saxon Blvd. Orange City, Florida 32763
