Grandma as she was affectionately called, attended Oracabessa All Age School. After leaving school she worked for her cousin as a helper in her shop as well as her home. Grandma later went on to work in the hotel industry, where she performed duties as a housekeeper at the Golden Head Beach Hotel.
In June 1971, Grandma migrated to the United States to join her eldest daughter, Norma Reid Curry. She found employment with a family in Long Branch, New Jersey and they loved her so much. When she told them she will be living in New York permanently they told her, “You are family. Whenever you are in New Jersey please visit us”.
She found employment with the City of New York as a home health aide. She worked with them until her retirement. She relocated to Central Florida and lived the rest of her life there.
Grandma loved her family and demonstrated this by spending quality time with all of them as frequently as she could.
Her husband Samuel Rodney preceded her in death in May 2001.
Grandma had 13 children. She is survived by 11 of them: Norma Reid Curry, Elsa Rodney Bartley, Delief Rodney (deceased), Elsie Rodney Panton, Eureka Rodney Boothe (deceased), Rupert Rodney, Hugh Rodney, Errol Rodney, Elizabeth Rodney Turnbull, Margaret Rodney, Janice Rodney Hawthorne, Sandra Rodney Edwards, and Harold Rodney.
Grandma has 54 grandchildren, two of whom predeceased her, 84 great grandchildren, one of whom predeceased her, and 45 great-great grandchildren.
She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins from multiple generations.
