Leecy J. Ezell passed away on Sunday, May 13, 2018. She will join her beloved husband, Chip who has been patiently waiting for her for the past 6 years.
Leecy was born in Orange Memorial Hospital in 1953.
Leecy found Indian artifacts at Payne’s Prairie, learned how to shoot a pistol, modeled, took tap, ballet, and gymnastics all by the age of 6. Then her world fell apart for the first time. Her father was killed on the 3rd of July in an airplane crash. Life changed, but life moved on.
Leecy’s mother was not only her mother. She was her mother, but above all her best friend. They talked all the time about everything and nothing. Leecy could tell her anything. They enjoyed cooking together, especially for holiday meals.
Leecy graduated from Stetson and became a Volusia County School teacher. She loved teaching. She married Chip, her true love, in December 1978.
Then in 1988 Leecy’s mom was diagnosed with colon cancer. Her mom died on Oct. 26, 1989. The world as Leecy knew it ended for the second time. Life changed, but life moved on.
In 2011, Leecy became very ill and was hospitalized for a month. She came home in April to recuperate and get back on her feet. It was during this time that her beloved husband, Chip, began to have trouble swallowing. He was diagnosed with esophageal cancer on August 27. Radiation and chemo soon followed. He fought with all of his heart, but lost the battle on Dec. 21, 2011. They had been married for 32 loving years and 364 wonderful days. Life changed, but life moved on.
Leecy was brave. She put her best foot forward and learned how to adjust to this new life on her own. She continued to live in the beautiful house they had purchased together on the lake. She enjoyed movies, music, shopping, going to the beach, making crafts, sharing her creations (and candy) with others, reading books, reading to children, volunteering at school, traveling, friendships, and her cats.
Leecy put up a brave fight after her diagnosis of throat cancer. She continued to reach out to others and enjoy life as long as she possibly could. She will be thought of often and missed by many.
Rest in Peace, Leecy. Chip is happy to have his partner with him again.
