Lorenzo Mitchell Esteen, Jr.

Lorenzo Mitchell Esteen, Jr. was born July 13, 1944 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Lorenzo Mitchell Esteen, Sr. and Yvonne Jackson Esteen. He was the eldest of 6 children born of that union. He accepted Christ at an early age. Lorenzo attended Orleans Parish schools and in 1965 enlisted in the U.S. Army where he gained experience as an infantryman and an administrative specialist. He earned numerous ribbons and medals during his 24 years of service, including the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Gallantry Cross and a Parachutist Badge.

On June 11, 1994, Lorenzo married the love of his life, Barbara Jackson, an elementary school teacher, who he affectionately called “Mrs. Es.’ The two of them were inseparable. Although he pursued carpentry as a trade and hobby after retiring from the U.S. Army, Lorenzo spent equally as much time volunteering at Barbara’s school, assisting with field trips for groups of special education students.

Lorenzo loved to travel and treasured every precious moment spent with his grandchildren.

After 72 years of a fulfilling life, the Lord called Lorenzo to enter his final rest in the quiet morning hours of Tuesday, November 15, 2016.

Lorenzo leaves to cherish his loving memory his extraordinary father, Lorenzo Mitchell Esteen, Sr.; his devoted wife, Barbara Esteen; his son, Samuel Esteen (Sheila) of New Orleans, LA; four step-children, Myron Jackson of Beaumont, TX; Shane Jackson (Victor) of Hollywood, CA; Eurilynne Williams (Darryl) of Sanford, FL; and Tanja Brooks of Sanford, FL; a special son, Victor Towns of Pasadena, CA; grandchildren, Rita, Myron, Jazmen, Hurey, Ebony, London, Nicholas, Britney, Tiara, Azariah, Victor and Tyler; several great-grandchildren; five siblings, Donald Esteen, Darryl Esteen, Wayne Esteen, Debra Lallande and Deanne Esteen, all of New Orleans, LA; a lifelong friend, Bertrand Butler; and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and close friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Yvonne; stepmother, Ceile; and grandson, DeAngelo.
