Lurline, a native of Benbow, St. Catherine, Jamaica, W.I., received a degree from Teacher's College in Jamaica and taught at Holy Rosary School and Holy Trinity School before relocating to Brooklyn, New York. In 1968, she earned a teaching degree at Brooklyn College. She went on to teach at Holy Spirit R.C. School, from which she retired in 1984.
Lurline, in addition to living in Brooklyn, for a time resided in The Bronx, New York, before relocating to DeLand in 2004.
Lurline, who was fondly called by most friends - Paul or Polly - was a very devoted mother, motivator and counselor for her family and friends, who had great confidence in her advice and support. She saw no fault in anyone and was forgiving to all. She was a firm believer in education and religion.
Lurline was an avid reader, enjoyed watching the news, especially CNN and would contribute to discussions on politics. She enjoyed going on cruises, playing scrabble and bingo and doing "scratch-offs." Music was one of her passions and she loved songs from every genre from classical to R&B, rock steady, hip hop, dance hall and country and western.
Lurline was predeceased by her husband, Arthur Edward Hinds; sisters, Ruby Irving and Bernice McCalla; brothers, Iphanoe Irving and Johnny Irving, and other siblings. She leaves to celebrate her beautiful life daughters, Yvonne Jean Hinds and Lorna Bell, Spencer Bell (grandson), Mark Irving (her nephew) and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Many of who have traveled from far to be with her today.
Friends may call on Friday, February 25, 2011 from 6 - 9 pm at Deltona Memorial Funeral Home, 1295 Saxon Boulevard, Orange City, PH: 386-775-4260. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, February 26th at 10:00 am with Father Frank Cerio of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Deltona officiating. Entombment will immediately follow services in Deltona Memorial Gardens in Orange City.
