Margaret “Pege” Howley (nee Sembler) was born June 8th 1930 in the Greenwich Village section of New York City. She is the last surviving sibling in her family. She is predeceased by her parents Joseph & Mary and her siblings, Joseph, Alice, Mary, Anna, Billy & Bobby as well as her sisters and brothers-in-laws and several nieces. She was beloved by her brothers and sisters, especially Anna with whom she shared a beautiful life until her passing in 2012. Where there was one, there was the other. (usually having an argument but always ending with a laugh).
Pege was a devout catholic, celebrating her faith at Our Lady of the Lakes. Her faith never wavered even during some extremely difficult times in her life.
After a nearly 40 year career in the banking industry, she retired as Senior Vice President of Personnel for Manhattan Savings Bank, a title she earned through hard work and determination. She retired with Anna to Deltona in 1992 and formed a very special relationship with so many friends, there are just too many to name. Her friends truly became like her family.
She enjoyed bingo, card & bunko, hosting many parties both in New York and in Florida, traveling and enjoying life. Her home was always welcoming, loving and full of life. Even though she had no children , she treated her nieces and nephews like they were her own, including many of her great nieces and nephews. Apartment 3R is where many of our childhood memories were formed.
She will be sorely missed by her numerous nieces & nephews, friends and companions.
A very special thank you to the staff at the Starlight ALF in Deland for taking such good care of her in her final years and her good friend Eileen.
Rest in peace Aunt Pege, you were the last of your kind.
In Lieu of flowers, please make a donation to St. Jude’s Children’s hospital. Their mission was especially important to Pege, as she doted on all children.
