Margaret “Peggy” I. Nicholas, 63, of Deltona, passed away Saturday, January 30, 2021 after struggling with breast cancer for 10 years. She was born September 3, 1957 in Oak Harbor, Washington to the late Cdr. Richard & June Martin of Sanford.
She grew up the daughter of a career Navy man, living in many places including Memphis, TN, Sanford, FL, Walnut Creek, CA, Albany, GA, and the Naval Air Station in Bermuda. Living in so many different places gave her a love for travel and meeting new people, culminating in a year of performing in “Up With People” after graduating from Roger B. Chaffee High School in Bermuda (1975).
Another love she had was teaching children. She fulfilled this passion through working as a paraprofessional with both special needs children and Pre-K children in Volusia County Elementary schools including Volusia Pines, Pride, and Friendship. The students she taught will fondly remember “Mrs. Peggy”.
She delighted in listening to and singing music, travel, and all things butterflies. As anyone who knew Peggy, she was a friend to all and a stranger to no one.
She is survived by her husband, Edward, four children – Blake Nicholas (Jessica) of Deltona, Craig Nicholas of Milledgeville, GA, Daniel Nicholas of Deltona, and Kristin Vega (Alexander) of Sanford. Also surviving her are four grandchildren – Nolan, Braelyn, Holden and Brooklyn, and three siblings – Rick Martin (Jalene) of Ridgecrest, CA, Cindy Roadarmel (Mark) of Macon, GA, and Denise Fletcher of San Diego, CA.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Monday, March 8, 2021 from 1-2 PM at Deltona Memorial Funeral Home with a “Celebration of Life” beginning at 2 PM. A reception will follow from 3-5 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
Arrangements entrusted to Deltona Memorial Funeral Home. 1295 Saxon Blvd. Orange City, Florida 32763. Please view family tribute page at www.deltonamemorialfuneralhome.com
