Mr. Harkness was born on August 23, 1932 in Miami, Florida, the son of William Zachary and Tannie Raye Tombley Harkness. He was united in marriage to Frances Smith for 61 1/2 years. He was in the U.S. Army. He attended Miami Edison High and the University of Miami for two years. He worked for Rheem Air Conditioning for 25 years and then was Branch Manager and worked for Gem-Aire Air Conditioner Distributors for over 25 years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 1/2 years, Frances; a daughter, Susan (Todd) Mitchell of Deltona, FL; two grandchildren, Matthew Todd and Katelyn Marie Mitchell; two brothers, Lawrence Harkness and Donald (Ellen) Harkness. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Janet Lee.
There will be a Gathering of Friends on Friday, July 5th from 10 am till 11 am and a Memorial Service will follow at 11 am at Deltona Memorial Funeral Home, 1295 Saxon Boulevard, Orange City, FL, PH: 386-775-4260 with Chaplain David Meyer officiating.
