Rosalind June Hinesly, 78, of DeBary, Florida passed away on July 5, 2020 after a courageous fight against cancer. Roz was born on June 24, 1942 in Cumberland, Maryland to the late Edwin “Ross” and Ardraith Gladys (Miller) Golden.
Roz was a true pioneer in a man’s world; she was the first female mail carrier in New Smyrna Beach in the 1960’s. She was also very creative and artistic, and was even hired to paint murals around New Smyrna Beach. She was quite talented at drawing portraits, creating and painting ceramics, and using her imagination to bring any craft idea to life!
Roz met her young sailor husband Jimmy in 1967 on the beaches of New Smyrna while he was on leave while serving in the U.S. Navy. It was love at first site and they married before he returned to sea duty. Roz followed and supported Jim during his military career and they started a family with the birth of their son Jimmy in 1968. She was a devoted and selfless wife and mother who always made sure her family’s needs were met before her own. Her true passion in life was caring for those in need - especially children. Roz and Jim raised their two biological children, Jimmy and Stacy, while they extended their love and home to their nephews Eddie and Robert. In 1992 she became a grandmother for the first time and was thereafter known as “Nee Hiney” to her granddaughter Hailey. She continued her selfless love in her golden years with diapers, storybooks and nursery rhymes.
Later in life, with an empty nest, Roz decided to work for the Children’s Home Society as a case manager and became heavily involved in the foster care system. In just a short amount of time Roz and Jim began the process of becoming foster parents and eventually adopted Matthew, Cody and Alex. While raising the boys, Roz worked as a substitute teacher in Volusia County. Roz’s love and pride for her country and the military always remained close to her heart and she served as a trustee and chairperson on several committees as an Auxiliary member of VFW Post 8093 where she was blessed with many cherished friends that became family.
She is survived by her husband Jimmy D.; children - Jimmy R. (Amy), Stacy (Ken), Cody (Jazzmin), Matthew and Alex; grandchildren - Hailey, Peyton, Justin, and Kyle; siblings: Edwin and Dee.
We know there are many who want to say their goodbyes and show their respect for Roz and we have planned a private Celebration of Life event for the near future. Unfortunately due to COVID-19 and for the safety of all concerned, it breaks our hearts but we must restrict those coming to Roz's Celebration of Life to only immediate family and close friends. We appreciate your support with this difficult decision.
We don’t want to miss any special memory or story about Roz during this celebration, so the family encourages everyone to share a tribute to Roz by emailing [email protected] by Monday, July 13th. We plan to display every special message during the celebration. You may also visit www.deltonamemorialfuneralhome.com to offer condolences that will be recorded for the family as a keepsake.
In lieu of sending flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to Vitas Hospice of Volusia-Flagler County in Roz’s name at: https://vitascommunityconnection.org - Click the “Make a Donation” button on the top right of the webpage, on the Designation drop down select the Volusia / Flagler location.
