Sanford Samuel Berman (Sandy), age 79 of DeBary, FL passed away peacefully on June 22, 2020 with his wife and family by his side. Sandy was born in Rockville Center (Long Island), New York on December 26, 1940. He graduated from Amityville High School and went on to study at the Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan.
Sandy and his wife Micky married in 1978 and moved to Central Florida in 2004 to be closer to their grandchildren. In addition to his loving wife, Sandy is also survived by his son Cary (Kelly) Berman of Sanford, FL, his sister Aimee Bushman (Stuart) of Boca Raton, FL, and his grandchildren Zach (20), Evan (18) and Jake (13). Sandy was preceded in death by; his brother, David Berman, who passed away in 1971, his father, Irving Berman, who passed away in 1981 and his mother, May Berman, who passed away in 2002.
Sandy made his career in retail, following his parents in the family business with several ladies’ fashion stores in South Florida. In later years, he worked for Marshall’s, Kmart and his favorite retirement “job” – on the links at DeBary Golf and Country Club.
In spite of a busy work life, Sandy always found time for sports, and he could often be found playing golf and cheering on his favorite teams- Miami Dolphins, Miami Marlins, Miami Hurricanes and Florida Gators. Sandy’s greatest joy was being on the sidelines of his own grandsons’ games each weekend and sharing Sunday dinners with them.
Sandy will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Due to current social distancing protocols, a limited visitation is being held at 2 p.m. on Monday, June 29, 2020 at Deltona Memorial Funeral Home. A virtual viewing will be made available at that time on Facebook Live at https://www.facebook.com/kelly.d.berman
