Vicente M. Martinez

Vicente Marcelino Martinez was born 1-22-1934 and lived through 12-31-13. He was a Captain in the military at a young age and met his wife Epifania Becerra in 1959 before the revolution. When Fidel Castro took presidency in 1959 Vicente joined the revolution and fought against Fidel Castro. Because it was a crime to go against the government he was imprisoned for a long time. Once he was released in the 1970's Vicente and Epifania got married. They had two children Alain and Dalila Martinez in the late 1970's. In 1980 Vicente with his wife a children where able to get out of Cuba they went to Spain before getting to the United States in 1981. Upon arrival to Florida Vicente immediately started working as a truck driver in Miami where he resided most of his life. In 1998 Vicente Martinez still had a large passion for the freedom of his country. He and a fellow political prisoner went to Cuba wanting to continue towards the road to liberty for Cuba. Unfortunately they where not supposed to be in the country and where arrested and imprisoned till June 2001. Back in Florida Vicente continued to work driving trucks until he retired. Once Vicente Martinez became to old and weak to care for himself he and his wife resided with their daughter and grandchildren in Deland, FL until Vicente passed away.
