

William G. Flood, a beloved husband, esteemed veteran, and passionate creator, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2024, at the age of 81. Growing up in the coastal towns of Florida, including Melbourne, Key West, and Miami, William developed a lifelong love for the ocean and the outdoors. Early mornings spent surfing at Melbourne Beach and summers working at a camp in Sebring shaped his adventurous spirit and deep connection to nature.
A proud graduate of Southwest Miami High School, William went on to serve his country as a member of the Class of 1964 at the U.S. Air Force Academy. There, he excelled as a swimmer and gymnast, laying the foundation for a distinguished career in the U.S. Air Force. With extensive combat and staff experience from 1964 to 1988, William served in various prestigious roles, including as an F-4C/D combat pilot at Ubon, Thailand, where he flew 200 missions over North Vietnam. His dedication to duty continued as he transitioned to instructor pilot and later took on pivotal roles in developing advanced weapons systems.
William's career culminated in significant contributions to multinational test and evaluation programs for the F-16, where he served as the first Commander of the F-16 Multinational Operational Test and Evaluation. His expertise and leadership were integral in shaping the future of tactical air operations, including the establishment of the Green Flag program at Nellis AFB, which focused on integrating electronic capabilities into tactical warfare.
A recipient of numerous awards, including the Silver Star and Distinguished Flying Cross, William's military legacy is a testament to his bravery and dedication. After retiring in 1988, he founded SDS International, Inc., a successful venture that continues to thrive in Florida.
William is survived by his loving wife, Betsy; his brother-in-law, Hank Beuke, and his wife, Jennifer; as well as his cherished seven Cardigan Welsh Corgis and eight parrots. He is also remembered fondly by his close friends and partners Christina and Patrick Mazepink at Corona Ona Maz Kennels LLC.
In his personal life, William was a gifted builder and gardener, known for his remarkable ability to create and renovate homes. He passionately tended to his gardens, planting fruit trees and cultivating a vibrant vegetable garden, reflecting his love for nurturing life.
William's adventurous spirit, dedication to service, and creative talents will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A visitation for William will be held Monday, January 6, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Deltona Memorial Funeral Home, 1295 Saxon Blvd, Orange City, FL 32763. A committal service will occur Tuesday, January 7, 2025 from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, Q44J+Q9, Mims, FL 32754.
