William Hernandez

William Hernandez, Sr. of Deltona, Florida, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at the age of 75. Born on November 6, 1950, in San Sebastián, Puerto Rico, William spent his childhood on the island before moving to the Bronx, New York, as a young teenager to reunite with his family. It was there that he built the foundation of a life defined by hard work, devotion to his family, and lasting friendships.

William was known for his incredible work ethic. He began his career with the United States Postal Service before working for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), where he served for many years as a Token Clerk. His commitment to providing for his family and his willingness to work tirelessly were qualities that remained with him throughout his life. After retiring from the MTA, he fulfilled his dream of relocating to Florida, where he enjoyed a slower pace of life.

Outside of work, William had a lifelong passion for handball. Introduced to the sport as a teenager, he continued playing well into his seventies, recently winning a handball tournament at the remarkable age of 74. His competitive spirit, determination, and love for the game inspired those who knew him.

Above all else, William cherished his family. He was a proud father whose influence can be seen in each of his children. Whether through his resilience, unwavering work ethic, love of family, faith, or passion for sports, each carries forward a part of who he was.

William found lasting happiness with the love of his life, Tatiana Ivanovna Zakharova. Her passing in 2024 left a profound void in his heart, and though he continued on with strength and dignity, those closest to him knew he deeply missed the woman who meant so much to him.

William was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Tatiana Ivanovna Zakharova; his mother, Ana Matilde Herrera; his father, Carmelo Hernandez y Vélez; and his sister, Zoraida Hernandez.

He is lovingly remembered by his children, Vanessa Colarusso, William Hernandez, Jr., Jessica Hernandez, Joshua Hernandez, Joel Hernandez, and Raquel Hernandez; his cherished grandchildren, Julian, Matthew, Gianna, Dominic, Ariana, Tatiyana, Joshua, Aaliyah, Natalia, Juliana, Joel, Mellony, Noah, and Aiden; extended family; and many friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of VITAS Healthcare, especially his nurse, Carmen, whose kindness, professionalism, and genuine care brought comfort during William's final days. The family also wishes to express its deepest appreciation to Joshua and Kayla Hernandez for their extraordinary devotion and selfless care. Their unwavering love and support allowed William to spend his final chapter surrounded by family, dignity, and compassion.

William will be remembered for his strength, resilience, unwavering work ethic, and deep love for his family. He lived life with determination, found joy on the handball court, and never backed down from hard work or a challenge. His legacy lives on through his children, grandchildren, and everyone whose life he touched. Though he will be deeply missed, the lessons he taught, the memories he created, and the love he shared will remain with his family forever.
