Wilmer "Gene" Meeker Sr.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years Frances Lawson Meeker; 3 children, Susan(Mike) Darnall of Daytona Beach,Florida; Mary (Alan) McGhee of Deland, Florida and Wilmer Eugene(Bill)Meeker Jr. of DeBary, Florida; Gene was the grandfather of 5 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; a sister Barbara Ann Smith of Mount Dora, Florida; several neices, nephews and cousins.

Gene was predeceased by his sister Marie Meeker Million,Carolyn Meeker Sanders and brother William O. Meeker Jr (Otis)and Johnny Mack Meeker.

He retired from the US Navy as Chief Petty Officer after 22 years of service. After his retirement from the Navy he worked as a Heat/ Air technician. Gene was a real family man who loved his family and the family gatherings. He loved playing Golf, working in his yard and going to church .He was a long time member of Barnett Memorial Untied Methodist where he and his wife sang in the choir. At the time of death he was a member of Community United Methodist Church,DeBary and a member of the Fleet Reserve, Sanford, Florida.

Visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday May 30, 2017 10-11 AM at Deltona Memorial Funeral Home where funeral services will follow at 11 AM. Burial will follow services with full military honors in Deltona Memorial Gardens, Orange City, FL.
