Alvin Albertsen July 27, 1927-March 11, 2012 Alvin Albertsen- Beloved husband, father and friend, 84 passed away March 11, 2012. He will be remembered for his wonderful smile, kind words, and steadfast devotion. The Albertsen family will remember the loving family he was raised in and is now in their care. Virginia, his devoted wife of 61 years wishes they could have had more days together. Alvin had frequently mentioned his hometown of Cleveland Ohio, his beloved brothers Willard, Harold, and Kenneth, stepsister Rose and parents Peter and Catherine Albertsen.
Alvin and Virginia recently moved to The Allegro of Fleming Island Senior Living community in 2010 to be near their daughter. They both went to East High School in Cleveland Ohio. Alvin enlisted in the US Navy in 1945 at the age of 18. Alvin also attended Case Technical Institute in Cleveland and Virginia attended Bowling Green University in Ohio before they were married in 1950. Alvin worked for Leeds and Northrup, Inc in Cleveland Ohio and Detroit Michigan as a Instrumental Specialist for industrial controls during the early days of computer development. He always spoke of his brother Willard as being very supportive in his career. Alvin would recall his father’s music and band with the Salvation Army of Cleveland Ohio. Alvin continued that music upbringing with his beautiful baritone voice and singing in a musical group “The Choraliers” in Warrensville Heights Ohio and in the Franklin Community Church choir in Franklin Michigan. We have wonderful memories of his singing in the barbershop quartet number in a production of “The Music Man”. Just after retirement, Alvin and Virginia were able to enjoy a few years of adventure with a travel group “The Nomads” where they went to the east and west coast of the US, Canada, and Mexico.
Alvin had been declining over the last 6 months from the effects of Parkinson and Alzheimer’s diseases. Surviving are his devoted wife of 61 years, Virginia, a daughter Holly A. Adams, and son Brian Albertsen. Alvin was blessed with a wonderful Albertsen family, which still includes sister in law Elizabeth Albertsen, four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Some words from The Music Man song lyrics: “Tell me what can be fair in farewell, dear, while one single star shines above”“Lida Rose, I’m home again, Rose To get the sun back in the sky. Lida Rose, I’m home again, Rose About a thousand kisses sky”
We love you and miss you
Al Albertsen
