Alyssa Chika Lamar

Alyssa Chika Lamar was born on May 3, 2000 at Naval Hospital Jacksonville. Her parents are Wayne Lamar and Keiko Lamar. Growing up, Chika always loved art, and the house was often bright with colorful drawings that reflected her imagination and gentle spirit. She also loved horses, with a keen eye for spotting and calling out each one during road trips. Green was her favorite color, and her smile and laughter had a way of bringing warmth to any room.

Chika’s name, meaning “a thousand flowers,” was a beautiful reflection of the unique and vibrant person she was. She had a personality all her own and was genuinely fun to be around and talk with. Her warmth, humor, and individuality made her someone people enjoyed spending time with and would not soon forget.

Chika attended Grove Park Elementary School and Orange Park Junior High School, and graduated from Orange Park High School in 2018. She went on to attend FSCJ for two years, earning an Associate Degree—an achievement that reflected her steady dedication and hardworking nature.

Chika later worked for East Coast Repair and Fabrication as a welding inspector for five months, where she assisted with work on ships at Naval Station Mayport. She truly loved her job and spoke fondly of her supervisor and coworkers. Her time there was more than simply a job; it was a place where she enjoyed the work she did and valued the people she worked alongside.

Chika’s curiosity and adventurous streak showed in the many things she enjoyed. She delighted in collecting anything Boba Fett, loved building Legos, and was known as a master of the claw machine. Chika found freedom on her motorcycle, comfort in caring for her pets, and joy in being an avid bookworm. She also treasured time spent playing video games with her friends, bringing humor and loyalty into the moments that mattered.

Chika had a deep appreciation for her Japanese heritage and loved traveling to Japan, where she enjoyed learning more about the culture and connecting with the people around her. She found joy in riding the transit buses and beautiful Japanese trains and especially enjoyed talking with Japanese citizens along the way. Her trips gave her the opportunity to experience a culture that held a special place in her heart.

Chika loved Japanese food and a good seafood boil. She shared a particularly close bond with her mother—her best friend—and the two loved shopping the Asian markets together. With a kind heart and a compassionate, devoted presence, Chika could be counted on when someone needed a steady listener or a reassuring word. In both quiet and ordinary ways, she left a lasting impression on everyone she came in contact with.

Chika is survived by her father, Wayne Lamar; her mother, Keiko Lamar; her brother, Kazuki Lamar; her grandparents, Doyle “Papa Doyle” Lamar and Rita “Mama Rita” Lamar; her uncle, Chris “Uncle Chris” Lamar; Mandy “Mandy” LouAllen; and her Japanese family, Yoshi “Ji-Chan” Fukushima, Hatsuko “Ba-Chan” Fukushima, Kazu “Kacchan” Fukushima, and Mayumi “Mama” Fukushima. She is also survived by her beloved four-legged baby, Maciej the Doberman Pinscher.

Chika was preceded in death by her granny, Catherine Mullins, and her uncle, Doug Lamar.
