Betty Jo (Quigley) Green, 94, of Orange Park, Florida, born May 24, 1932, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, September 14, 2026. Betty Jo met her future husband, Herbert Lee Green, on the school bus in the 8th grade. She graduated from Clay High School in 1950 and they were married in 1951. Together they built a home in the wilds of Fleming Island where they raised three children.
Betty Jo served her family, church and careers with an open heart and a curious mind. She constantly strived to learn new things. She was especially proud to learn to use computers and was ordering groceries online well into her 80’s. She taught Sunday School, studied the Gospel and shared fellowship with others at First Baptist Church Orange Park. In the last years of her life, Betty Jo witnessed her faith to fellow residents, staff and visitors where she resided.
Career highlights include as a lab assistant at Yerkes Laboratory where she cared for chimpanzees, as personal secretary to Helen Brown Adams, where she learned about computers, and as an auditor for child support cases. She was a very talented writer, although most of her pieces she kept private. She retired from the Clay County Courthouse Child Support Department.
Betty Jo was preceded in death by Herbert and survived by a son, William Joseph Green (Brenda); 2 daughters: Edna Leigh Gardner (Mark) and Alice Marie Johnson; 6 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
