CATHERINE DOYLE HEWETT, 80, of Orange Park, died Tuesday, September 4, 2018 after a long courageous fight with dementia. She was born to the late George and Sadie Doyle, October 3, 1937, in Greensboro, North Carolina. Cathy graduated from Clay High School in 1957 and received a nursing degree from St. Luke’s Hospital Nursing School in 1958. She married the love of her life Donnie Hewett in 1960, and they lived together in Westville, Florida, before relocating back to Orange Park in 1963. Cathy worked as a nurse until she and Don opened Don’s Alignment Service in Orange Park in 1969. Cathy was an active member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Orange Park. She loved to study genealogy, travel and bake. Caring for her family was her purpose in life. Neighbors looked to Cathy for medical advice and she always greeted them with open arms and a smile. Cathy is survived by her husband Donnie of 58 years; two children: G. Donnie Hewett, of Orange Park; W. Randy Hewett, of Jacksonville; and her beloved daughter in law Julie (Michael) Hewett Griffis, of Orange Park. She also is survived by her grandson, Cole Hewett and Carlee Griffis. A viewing will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, September 7, 2018 at Hardage-Giddens Rivermead Funeral Home. The service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 8, 2018 at Hardage-Giddens and burial immediately following at Peoria Cemetery on Jefferson Avenue in Orange Park. The family will host friends at Cathy’s home, 3326 Peoria Road, Orange Park immediately following.
