

Born in Daytona, FL she was one of three children born to the late Harry and Lee Bowers Whitsett. She was raised in Daytona and attended Daytona High School. During WWII Celeste took a train to California and worked in the war effort in a manufacturing plant as a “Rosie the Riveter”. She was a graduate of Stetson University in 1947 (undergraduate) and the University of Florida in 1951 (Master of Education) and retired from a career as a teacher and school librarian with the Duval County School System. She was a lifetime member of the National Education Association and the Daughters of the American Revolution and a member of St. Catherine’s Episcopal Church.
She was skilled at crochet and knitting and made many cherished items for friends and family. She loved crosswords, reading, and caring for her many pets over the years.
