Donald (Donnie) Patton Macleod, Jr., M.D. was born in Lancaster, PA to Donald Patton Macleod, Sr., and Sarah (Wilkerson) Macleod. His family moved to Jacksonville, FL in 1942. Donnie graduated from Robert E. Lee High School and earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree at Sewanee, The University of the South. He earned his Medical Degree at Tulane University in 1966 and completed his internship at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, LA, and residency and fellowship in Gynecology and Obstetrics at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans. He then moved back to Jacksonville, FL in 1972 where he practiced obstetrics and gynecology for many years. Dr. Macleod was a founding member of North Florida OB/GYN established in 1994. He practiced at Riverside Hospital and St. Vincent’s Riverside Hospital for 39 years.
Dr. Macleod was recruited by the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War after completing his internship. He served as ship physician on several Destroyers in the United States Navy before completing his residency.
Donnie was an avid outdoorsman, spending many hours hunting and fishing with friends and family. He enjoyed participating in the “Third Thursday Group” (est. 1975) and the “Tubbies Group” forged of lifelong friendships at Ortega Elementary School.
Donnie is predeceased by his parents; wife of 35 years, Jean Gillette Macleod; and sister Jean Macleod Brennan. He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Donna Rainey Macleod; daughter Merrill (Timothy) Macleod Stanton; and son Gardner Patton Macleod. He is also survived by grandchildren Matthew (Lauren) and Regan Stanton.
A Celebration of Life in honor of Donnie will be held on Friday, September 15, 2023, 11:00 am at Orange Park Methodist Church, 2051 Park Avenue, Orange Park, FL 32073. There will be a gathering reception immediately following in the Family Life Center at the church.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Orange Park Methodist Church or the Endowment Fund at Sewanee, University of the South, 735 University Ave. Sewanee, TN 37383.
