Frank Lee Shannon, 78, of Orange Park, Florida, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2024, at home under the care of Community Hospice after a long battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his family and dog, Toby. Frank was born in Valdosta GA. and moved to Jacksonville, FL at an early age. He resided in Orange Park for most of his life and was a member of The Springs Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Frank and Margaret Inez Shannon; a brother, Joe Wayne Shannon; and son-in-law William Vaughan Headley, Jr.
Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Cherryl Waldron Shannon; their daughter, Keri Shannon Headley of Jesup, GA.; their son, Steven Frank Shannon of Orange Park, FL; his sister Peggy (Bill) Shannon Day; 6 grandchildren, Jonathan, William, Ashley, Andrew, Robert, and Rilie; one great grandson, Jordan; and several nieces and nephews.
Frank was a graduate of the University of North Florida. He served in the U.S. Army as a helicopter crew chief in Germany and upon being honorably discharged he began his career at Florida State College at Jacksonville, as a media technician and adjunct photography instructor, where he retired after 35 years. He enjoyed water sports, flying, yard work, football and photography. For 20 years he was a photographer for the Marching Chiefs, the band at Florida State University.
To honor Frank's memory, his Celebration of Life service will be at 2:00 PM on April 22, 2024 at The Springs Church, 900 Park Ave., Orange Park, FL 32073. Visitation will be at 1:00 PM prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Springs Church or the Community Hospice Foundation.
