Gary Anthony Grell, of Orange Park, Florida passed on Monday, January 5, 2015. He was born January 19, 1953 and raised in Davenport, Iowa. As of two years ago, he and his wife moved from Norfolk, Virginia to Orange Park, Florida to enjoy retirement and warmer weather.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Jolita Grell, their four children, Jennifer Grell, Leona Albright, Larena Thomas and Anthony Grell; and his six grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, Carl Otto Grell and Leona Thomas; two sisters, Patricia Kallquist and Marylen Benson. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and his three dogs.
Gary retired as a Chief Boatswain’s Mate in the United States Navy (USN) from 1972 to 1994. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War (VFW).
He will be remembered for his love of family, fishing, hunting, baseball and football.
The family will receive friends at his memorial service and reception to be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 127 Blanding Boulevard, Orange Park, FL 32073. Memorialization will be with military honors by cremation and burial. The burial, date to be determined, will take place at Rock Island Arsenal, Illinois, per Gary’s wishes.
