Herbert White, 72, passed away on Monday, November 30, 2020 in his home in Jacksonville, Florida. Born on July 29, 1948, Herbert spent the majority of his childhood and teen years in New York, up until the age of 17, when he joined the United States Navy as a Culinary Specialist. In 1967, he met and married the love of his life, Mrs. Mattie Jo White and had three wonderful children, Omar, Shasta and Kimberly White. After serving 21years in the Navy, Herbert retired in 1987. In 1997, he gave his life over to Christ and began to teach the word of God. Herbert would eventually go on to become a deacon of his home church, Greater Refugee Temple in Jacksonville and serve as a General Manager to multiple restaurants in the city. Herbert enjoyed spending with his family, watching sports, old westerns and Jeopardy and cooking.
Herbert was more than just the titles he carried; husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, brother, friend, etc. His larger than life personality was a force to be reckoned with and he left a lasting impression on those around him. Regardless of his circumstances, he never shied away from giving back to those who need it most. Whether it was speaking words of wisdom, praying for others or giving the clothes off his back. To him, it was nice to be important, but it was more important to be nice. He was a flawed human who never pretended to be perfect, but with all intentions to live the best way he could. A man of God, his ultimate goal was to go on to to be with the Lord and live in eternal peace.
Matthew 25:23 : His lord said unto him, “ Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
