John was born July 25, 1937 to Linwood Winston Alexander and Peggy Irene Alexander of Richmond, VA and the youngest of six siblings, Lois, Jean, Winston, George, Shirley and Kitty.
He is survived by his daughter Susan Hetrick, his only grandson Brad Romano of Chesterfield, VA, who dearly loved his PaPa, his special nieces Peggy Scott (Mark) and Flo Lawton (Mark) as well as many other nieces, nephews and a daughter Janet Alexander in California.
John was predeceased by his loving wife Faye in 2017 and their son Jeffrey in 2007. He and Faye had a wonderful and full life together with their children Susan and Jeffrey. They enjoyed many family vacations and enjoyed cruising, vacationing to Hilton Head and had a lot of wonderful times with their family and lots of friends along the way. He loved God, his family and our American flag.
John enlisted, at age 17, to Company A, 176th Infantry Regiment 29th Infantry Division, VA National Guard and went on to enlist as a Private in the US Marine Corps. He had a long career with CSX and retired before moving to Florida.
John was a simple man, very detailed and soft-spoken, a gentleman's gentleman. He enjoyed talking to Susan and Brad almost daily. One of John's favorite things to do was to dance with his partner Pam; they were members of the Friday Night Dance Club in Jacksonville, FL. He was a very talented builder of Bluebird nesting boxes and donated to about 15 men and women who lost their spouses while in Richmond, VÀ US Marine Corp League. He and Pam continued to go cruising with his family of friends in Savannah GA and vacationed at different beaches.
John and Pam loved watching the birds in their backyard and he named some of the beautiful Egrets; his favorite bird was the pelican.
John enjoyed many times with Pam's children as well, Doug Rau (Wendy) Green Cove Springs FL, Ron Berlin (Lynette) Middleburg, FL, Tasha Hovis (Kevin) Fredericktown Mo and Kelli Gay (Bill) Graham, WA.
We will miss you dearly!
