Lois Jeanette Horn of Fleming Island, Florida passed away peacefully at home on June 3, 2024 at the age of 95. Lois is survived by her husband of nearly 42 years, Floyd “Bud” Horn of Fleming Island, Florida, son Bryan “Mitch” Rogers (Patricia) of Jesup, Georgia, step son Michael Horn of Jacksonville, FL, step daughter Cynthia Horn of Orange Park, FL, two grandchildren, John Warner of Atlanta, Ga, Shiree Gabelman (Nathan) of Brunswick, Ga, three great grandchildren, Cole, Quinn, and Kinsley Gabelman, two sisters Joyce Powell of Mandarin, Florida and Tonya O’Quinn of Ocala, FL as well as many loved nieces and nephews to the third generation. She is preceded in death by her parents: John Vrooman, Cynthia Smith, brother, John Vrooman Jr, and daughter Sharon R. Warner. Lois lived a full life with many interest and love for the Lord. She loved shelling at the beaches and fishing. Lois was an avid craft maker specializing in cross stitching, crocheting, sewing and painting. She loved spending her time in the garden tending and caring for flowers. In her early years, Lois gave quite a show swing dancing on the pier at Jacksonville Beach. She even took flying lessons where she soloed in a Piper Club in the 70’s.
After raising her two children, Lois began her nursing career where she worked for doctors in Brunswick, Georgia before moving back home to Florida where she retired as an OR nurse from St. Augustine General Hospital in 1986. Living in S. Ponte Vedra Beach, she met the love of her life, Bud Horn in 1980. Of all her accomplishments, her family was the pride and joy of her life.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to The Foundations of Community Hospice and Palliative Care, 4266 Sunbeam Rd. Jacksonville, FL 32257.
Internment will be at the Jacksonville National Cemetery at a future date.
Celebration of her life will be held for family and friends at Hardage-Giddens Rivermead Funeral Home 127 Blanding Blvd. Orange Park, FL 32073 on June 29th from 1:00-3:00 PM. The family asked to be casual dress.
