Marvin Louis Nixon

Born on September 22, 1931, in the East Lake suburb of Birmingham, Alabama, to Henry Green and Daisy Oweeta Nixon, Marvin’s childhood was primarily farm life. He graduated from Hewitt High School and began active military service with the U.S. Navy in 1951 where he served as an Aviation Electronics Specialist until 1966. Marvin married Mary Caddell in 1957, raising two children, Eben Dale and Cynthia Lynn. He transferred his military career to the Air Force in 1966 and served in Vietnam (1967–68). Marvin retired from military service as an Aviation Electronics Instructor and Field Supervisor in 1972.

After military service, Marvin worked for nearly 20 years as a Computer Communications Technician for General Electric, retiring in 1991. In retirement, he enjoyed woodworking with his wife, creating figures and puzzles as “Paw Paw’s Critter Crafts.” Marvin remained active in his church, mission work, and disaster relief, notably as handyman for anyone in need, helping restore churches after hurricanes, and serving food and refreshments after the 2001 World Trade Center attack until he could no longer sustain the effort required.

He is survived by his children, seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Marvin was predeceased by his parents, five siblings, his wife, Mary, and grandson, Derrick.

Service will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at 11:00am (visitation at 10:00am), Crosspointe Church, Fleming Island, FL. Donations may be made to Florida Baptist Convention and designated for the Campers on Mission ministry.

As Marvin has so often said, "Have a good day today and a better day tomorrow."

A visitation will be held at CrossPointe Church, located at 1871 County Rd 220, Fleming Island, FL 32003, on October 30, 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.

The funeral service will follow at the same location from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.

The committal service will take place at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32218, on October 30, 2025, from 2:30 pm to 3:01 pm.
