
HAMMER Merle James Hammer, 67, of Orange Park and Cocoa Beach, passed away Monday, February 20, 2012. Merle recently retired from Boeing after 33 years of service at Kennedy Space Center, Fallen NV, and Cecil Field, Jacksonville. He served with the U.S. Army in Vietnam. An avid Harley Davidson enthusiast, Merle was a proud member of Southern Cycle Air Group (SCAG). He was known as a generous host and BBQ Chef Extraordinaire. Don't you want to have any fun? was his philosophy. Merle is survived by his wife Jeanne Brubaker Hammer. Predeceased by his father Howard Mike Hammer, he is also survived by his mother Ellen Waldo Hammer, Merritt Island; sister Sue Benton (Deward), Jacksonville; brothers Bruce (Eileen), Merritt Island, and Greg (Judy), Charlotte, N.C. Merle also leaves behind nephews, nieces, great-nieces, great-nephews, friends who loved him lots, and his dog children Buster and Rosie. A Memorial Service will be held at Hardage-Giddens Rivermead Funeral Home, 127 Blanding Blvd., Orange Park, 2:00 pm, Saturday March 3, followed by a Celebration of Merle Hammer's Life at Buffalo's Caf, 6055 Youngerman Circle, Jacksonville.
