Miriam Baraket Story passed from this life into the welcoming arms of our Lord and Savior on October 31, 2025. Born in Brooklyn, NY, in 1936, she moved to Jacksonville with her mother in the mid-1940s and later met the love of her life and husband of more than 65 years, Ralph Story.
Miriam embraced her role as a devoted homemaker and mother, supporting Ralph throughout his distinguished career in the Navy and later at the Civilian Personnel Office at NADEP (NAS Jax). She found joy in her home—especially in the kitchen—where she lovingly prepared delicious meals and treats. Miriam also cherished traveling with Ralph, with favorite destinations including the Bellagio in Las Vegas, New York City, and Atlanta to visit family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her son-in-law, Larry Tyus. Miriam is survived by her daughter, Linda Story Tyus; two granddaughters, Lindsey Tyus Tackett and Lauren Tyus Carroll (Bryan); four great-grandchildren; her sister, Elaine Johnson (DeWayne Truitt); and nephews Michael Olberding, Steven Truitt, and Eric Truitt. The family extends their gratitude and deep appreciation to the caring staff and dedicated healthcare professionals at Brooks Bartram Lakes for their support during the final years of Miriam’s life.
A private graveside service will be held at Jacksonville Memory Gardens in Orange Park, Florida. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be directed to the Brooks Foundation (https://brooksrehab.org/brooks-foundation) or to Community Hospice & Palliative Care, 4266 Sunbeam Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32257.
