Dr. Nancy Haynes earned her undergraduate, graduate, and Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Florida. Nancy worked at the Veteran’s Administration in Tampa, Florida, and reflected fondly on her work with veterans. After returning to Gainesville, she worked in juvenile justice advocacy and counseling, then with prison populations, most notably as supervising Psychologist at Raiford Florida State Prison. Nancy eventually retired from the State of Florida after 26 years of service. Post-retirement, she maintained a private practice in Lake City and shared her expertise as a Psychologist writing court reports for unit residents at Tacachale Developmental Disability Center in Gainesville. She left Tacachale in 2020 and enjoyed time with her beloved pets Kayla, Delilah, Zora, and Violet.
Nancy is predeceased by her husband, Louis (Louie) Arthur Haynes. They were married in 1972 in Gainesville and shared a passion for animal welfare, especially dogs. Nancy and Louie lovingly fostered numerous dogs who would otherwise be euthanized and held a tender spot for Chow Chows. Nancy was a loving stepmother and survived by her three stepchildren, David Haynes (Barbara Blonder) of St. Augustine, Florida, Maria Hane (Rob) of Darien, Georgia, and Lura Jacobs (Simon) of Asheville, North Carolina. Her stepgrandchildren include Seth Blonder Haynes, Dylan Marc Altenbach, Lela Mae Jacobs, Jacob Noah Williams, Jacob Alexander Hane, Lily Gayle Williams, Jule Johnstone Jacobs and Madilena "Maddie" Elizabeth Hane. She also leaves behind her dedicated and dearest friends Carla Savage and Richard “Buddy” Schmelz, among many others who loved her. We will deeply miss her caring and kind heart, sharp intellect, quick humor, and political satire.
Her family is honoring her wishes for no formal service and will hold a private service to celebrate her life. Memorial donations may be made in her memory to https://www.humanesocietyncfl.org/donate/
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.hardage-giddensrivermead.com for the Haynes family.
